Meet the team.
The Let’s Read 2022 project is a partnership between The University of Texas at
Austin, Lincoln Center Theater in NYC, and the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo. The project development team consists of six K-16 educators, or Arts Integrated Teaching Fellows, and U.S. experts who have worked together to co-design lesson plans, online resources, and trainings which use Sandra Cisneros’ The House on Mango Street to explore issues of identity and home through English and arts literacy.

"Drama-based strategies add flavor and interest in my language classes offering my students an entertaining way to express their thoughts and feelings verbally and physically. They allow students to get actively involved, become more comfortable with their peers, and promote skills such as empathy, self-awareness, and curiosity."

"I fell in love with DBP back in 2018 when the first workshop in my country took place. For me, DBP represents a sense of belonging, self-improvement, professional development, fun, and engagement in the classroom. It means being a member of an amazing network of creative educators all over the world. It makes me step out of my comfort zone and test my self-confidence, and at the same time, it reminds me why being a teacher is the most awesome profession in the world!"

Assistant professor at the University of Bihać, Faculty of Pedagogy
"Implementing DBP strategies in the syllabus leads to creating an immersive classroom with many different learning opportunities, focusing on affective, academic, and artistic growth. Using these strategies with my students, I have witnessed firsthand just how versatile DBP strategies really are. This is just one of the reasons why I am very excited to be part of this project, and I hope to see more DBP strategies used in classes in BiH."

"Let’s Read project is an artistic bridge that will connect students from different parts of BiH. I am happy and excited to be one of the architects because I truly believe in the power of the arts. Let’s read and let’s change!"

"DBP has given me the chance to reinvent myself as a teacher and to explore multimodal and multisensory approaches in my classroom. The DBP teaching community in BiH is growing with every new initiative, allowing us to collaborate and share creative ideas, practices, and challenges. The Let's Read project offers local teachers a unique opportunity to create lesson plans on youth literature addressing critical questions with our students around the topics of home and belonging, family and friendship, identity, gender, and self-expression."
